As a parent, there are certain products that we must have available at all times for the health and well being of our children. A good quality thermometer is one of the most important things to have in our first aid kit. I need to make sure that I always have a dependable and reliable way to be able to monitor my daughter's temperature so I am informed of the actions I need to take. I need to be able to know exactly how elevated her temperature is so I will know if it is something I should treat her for at home with a fever reducer or if I need to take her to her pediatricians office for further examination.
I was fortunate to receive this dual mode thermometer from Relief Care for free to test and provide my honest and unbiased opinion on how it performed for me. This is a digital forehead thermometer but it is also an infrared ear thermometer meaning that I can quickly take a digital reading by placing it in the center of my daughter's forehead or check her temperature via her ear canal. The large forehead cap snaps off to reveal the ear probe. The smart technology of the thermometer senses that the cap has been removed and then it automatically switches over to the infrared ear setting.
Because this thermometer does not require direct contact with the skin or need to be used in the mouth, I can monitor my daughter's temperature while she is sleeping without disturbing her. The sounds and beeps the thermometer makes can be muted if desired. The thermometer has a large, easy to ready backlight display which can be clearly seen in a darkened room so there is no need for me to have to turn on the lights and cause my daughter to wake up. This thermometer can also be used to test the temperature of bath water to make sure that it is a safe temperature before they enter the bath. It can be used to test the temperature of a baby's bottle, cup or food to prevent scalding of the child's mouth from a liquid or food that was much too hot. It can be used to check to temperature of the room to make sure the room stays at a comfortable temperature for the child. This thermometer can be used for infants, children and adults.
The LCD display lights up in three colors indicating the different levels of fever detected. A green light along with one long beep indicates that the temperature detected is a normal range (less than 99.5F/37.5C). A yellow light along with one long beep indicates that the temperature is slightly elevated in the mild range (99.5-100.22F/37.5-37.9C). A red light along with 6 short beeps indicated that a high fever has been detected (more the 100.4F/38.0C). The thermometer will store the last 25 readings taken so it is very handy to refer back. Recently, my daughter had a very high fever and required at trip to the doctor's office. I took this thermometer along with us and I was able to clearly show the doctor the readings that I had taken earlier that morning.
The thermometer comes with a soft drawstring storage pouch, a detailed instruction booklet and the batteries are already inserted. Be sure to remove the clear pull tab before the first use. Check out my video below for instructions on how to use this thermometer and to see it in action.
